The first Nova Covert Ops mission pack for StarCraft 2 arrives 30th March and you will be able to play it without owning the main game. All you need is the free Starter Edition installed.

The Nova Covert Ops mission packs are £6 a pop, and there are three of them, each containing three missions. They're storied missions that follow - to begin with - a Ghost operative called Nova. They take place in the Koprulu sector and involve beating the Defenders of Man and helping Emperor Mengsk. You'll need to infiltrate and uncover the baddies using all of your super sneaky abilities.

The other two Nova Covert Ops mission packs haven't been dated but will be out before December, according to Battle.net, where you can buy all three packs as part of a £12 bundle.

StarCraft II: Starter Edition was the demo version of StarCraft II, available to any player who downloads the client. This feature preceded the Wings of Liberty demo. Formerly it gave limited access to the campaign, vs AI and arcade. With the release of Legacy of the Void, the Starter Edition granted full access to the arcade, Co-op Missions, and custom games. Players could use a 'spawning' feature with friends in order to play full multiplayer matches, but only if they are in a party with their Blizzard friends. Using this feature would match them to the expansion level their friend is currently on.[1]

Since November 14, 2017, StarCraft II: Starter Edition is no longer available since being superseded by Free To Play.[2]

  • Full access to the arcade.
  • Custom games
  • Ability to 'spawn' with a Blizzard friend and play multiplayer games while partied with them
  • First three Wings of Liberty missions plus the 'The Evacuation' or 'Smash and Grab' (player's choice)
  • Whispers of Oblivion mini-campaign
  • Full access to Co-op Missions as well as three commanders: Jim Raynor, Sarah Kerrigan, and Artanis.
