Elder Scrolls 6 Setting

broken image

In this article I will be speculating about Elder Scrolls 6. When will we finally get it, will any new playable races be included and where will it be set? While I am enjoying what feels like my one-millionth play-through of Skyrim – this time on the PS VR version – I can't help but wonder when we'll get to play the next Elder Scrolls game.

1 day ago  Elder Scrolls 6 may be set in this region, Bethesda strongly hints. Bethesda might've just outed the location for the new next-gen Elder Scrolls game, but don't expect to find out any time soon. 1 day ago  The long wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 (and confirmation of its console exclusivity) was recently broken up by this tweet from the Elder Scrolls team which many fans believe is.

Elder Scrolls 6, where are you?

1 day ago  Fans have taken this as Bethesda teasing that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be set in Hammerfell. Now, of course, this could end up not being a tease and is instead just a celebratory way to ring in. 2 days ago  Wake up and slap on your lore caps, Elder Scrolls fans. The Elder Scrolls VI may be quite a ways off yet, but that sure hasn't ever stopped anyone from trying to divine details about where and when it might be set.The game's afoot once again thanks to a map that Bethesda have posted with a message that seems like it could definitely possibly maybe be a hint that ES6 will head to Hammerfell.

Skyrim was originally released in November 2011. Since then, we've had a shiny HD remaster, a not so shiny PS VR version and we were recently granted the ability to play Skyrim on the lavatory with the Switch version. We have also been given Elder Scrolls Online, which is okay if you're an MMO fan. Last year we were also given The Elder Scrolls: Legends card game. Neither of those are likely to satiate somebody craving a massive single-player Elder Scrolls world to get lost in.

On YouTube's Live at E3 stream, series director Todd Howard admitted that The Elder Scrolls 6 is one of three projects being developed internally.

'[The Elder Scrolls 6 is] kind of like the elephant in the room, always, when we talk about anything,' he said. 'And, you know, I think it's good in these moments to tell our fans yes, of course we are [working on it] – it's something we love – but it is… you know, I have to be careful what I say, it's a very long way off.' –

Both Bethesda Vice President Hines and Howard have confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be the last of the three projects to appear. As it wasn't in development in 2016, it's unlikely it will be released in 2018. Maybe in 2019 if we're lucky?

Elder Scrolls 6, where will you be set?

Here's a look at some of the possible locations for Elder Scrolls 6's location, along with pros and cons about the setting and the likelihood of it being set there.

1) Black Marsh

Black Marsh is also known as Argonia and uncharitably called the Garbage Heap of Tamriel. It's home to the Argonians – the playable reptilian race. The Black Marsh is filled with 'great inland waterways and impenetrable swamps.'

FOR: A huge swamp would make a change from the snowy-peaks of Skyrim. It also contains some interesting races, such as the hive-mind Hist.

AGAINST: A huge swamp populated by reptilian creatures may be a hard sell for Bethesda's marketing team.

Argonians are my favourite race, so I'm keeping my scaly fingers crossed for this one.

2) Hammerfell

Home to the Redguard – Elder Scrolls' most skillful warrior race – Hammerfell is a vast province to the West of Tamriel. The land was once occupied by the Dwemer but has remained in Redguard's control for centuries.

FOR: It's a huge territory which is very varied. It includes vast mountain ranges, grasslands, and deserts. Redguards are also an easier sell than Argonians.

AGAINST: It's already been covered in the Elder Scrolls spin-off game, The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard. Would Bethesda return to the same region for another Elder Scrolls game?

The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard game wasn't great but the region seemed worth a revisit.

3) Valenwood

Valenwood can be found to the South-west of Tamriel. It is home to the Bosmer – also known as the Wood Elves. It's a largely uninhabited forest wilderness featuring mangrove swamps and sub-tropical rain forests.

FOR: It's one of the few regions that hasn't been visited at all in the core Elder Scrolls titles (Elsweyr could be visited in Elder Scrolls: Arena). A lot of people love elves. There are also some interesting races there, such as The Hollow.

AGAINST: A lot of people hate elves, too. Would a region such as Valenwood be a diverse enough setting?

Would you, could you, with an elf? Would you, could you, by yourself? I would not, could not, with an elf. I would not, could not, by myself. I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them, Sam-I-Am! Computer recent history.

4) Elsweyr

Elseweyr is a hot desert region that is home to the bestial race, the Khajit. The South of the region features dense jungles and woodlands. Chief exports are nightshade and moon sugar.

Elder Scrolls Vi Location

FOR: The mixture of deserts, jungles and woodlands would offer plenty of scope for exploration.

AGAINST: The desert areas might be too dull and they cover a large tract of Elsweyr. Plus, it was already explorable in Elder Scrolls: Arena.

Why is he so angry? All I did was ask if I could borrow a cup of moon sugar.

5) Akavir

Elder scrolls vi location

What if Elder Scrolls 6 doesn't take place in Tamriel at all but on the neighbouring continent of Akavir? This violent continent is home to the Snow Demons of Kamal, the serpent-men of Tsaesci, the Monkey People of Tang Mo, and the Tiger Dragons of Ka'Po'Tun. This could mean more playable races.

Elder Scrolls 7 Release Date

FOR: Tamriel has already been featured extensively in both the core Elder Scrolls games and Elder Scrolls Online. Akavir by contrast would be a new, exciting and uncharted land.

AGAINST: Every Elder Scrolls game has been set in Tamriel. Would Bethesda be prepared to throw all their assets and pooled knowledge for that continent out of the window and start again in Akavir?

I'd love it if the next Elder Scrolls game was set in Akavir but it seems unlikely. What do you think?
